Bristol City Leap Community Energy Fund

The Community Energy Fund & Bristol Energy Network

The Community Energy Fund is a £1.5 million initiative from Bristol City Leap designed to empower local groups to take charge of their energy future. The fund is dedicated to projects that reduce carbon emissions, tackle fuel poverty, and build community resilience across Bristol.

The fund is split into two categories: Grants for planning and Loans for installation.

1. Grants: Planning & Preparation

These grants are designed to help you get your project "shovel-ready." They cover feasibility studies, technical surveys, and community engagement.

  • Micro Grants (Up to £1,000): Best for getting started, gathering energy data, or initial community workshops. (Rolling deadline).

  • Small Grants (£1,000 – £5,000): For technical groundwork like thermal imaging, building surveys, or heating feasibility studies. (Bi-annual deadlines).

  • Development Grants (Up to £50,000): For comprehensive project design, legal fees, and detailed contractor costings.

2. 0% Interest Loans: Installation

If your project is ready to build, these loans cover the capital costs of installation; such as solar panels, heat pumps, or major insulation upgrades. The loan is repaid over time, often using the money saved on your energy bills.

How BEN Supports You: As one of the community-facing delivery partners for the fund, Bristol Energy Network is here to ensure that every group, especially those new to energy projects, has the support they need. We can help you:

  • Develop your ideas: Turning a neighborhood concept into a viable plan.

  • Navigate the application: Helping you choose the right tier and guide you through the process.

  • Build connections: Linking you with technical experts and other successful local projects.
